Nextfest has more than forty different events\, performances\, galleries\, workshops\, mentorship opportunities\, and infamous Nite Clubs for you to enjoy. You’ll laugh\, you’ll cry\, you’ll suddenly ask yourself why you’re rooting for murder\n\n\n\nJINXXX on Friday\, June 13 at 9:30 pm – an 18+ queer nite club that will invite attendees to don their most cursed attire to brush elbows with lady luck and indulge in music\, performance\, and art. Subvert your superstitions with immersive installations\, roving entertainment\, and a main stage showcase in the Nancy Power Theatre\, before dancing your demons away with a midnight DJ set!\n\n\n\nThe Puppet Master: Burlesque\, Drag\, Puppetry and Live Music on Wednesday\, June 11 at 8:00 pm\n\n\n\n\nNextfest marks the beginning of a long creative journey for a huge array of artists. For more than twenty years\, we have fostered the growth and learning of thousands of artists who continue to practice and create on Treaty 6 land. We embody the spirit of newness and growth while respecting the deep roots planted by those who came before us. We are a platform for emerging artists\, a meeting ground for community\, a springboard for creative invention. Mentorship\, inclusion\, learning\, creative risk\, and vulnerability are at the core of everything we stand for. \n\n\n\nAnd so\, we embrace the spirit of Tatawaw: a Cree phrase meaning “welcome\, there is room.” \n\n\n\nThe Nextfest Arts Company acknowledges that we are situated on Treaty 6 territory\, the home of the Nations of Cree\, Nakota-Sioux\, Blackfoot\, Dene\, Tsuu T’ina\, Metis\, and other Indigenous peoples who call this land home\, who have created and gathered on these lands for thousands of years. \n\n\n\nAt Nextfest\, everyone is welcome exactly as they are. SUMMARY:Embodying Queerness: Creative Processes of Sexuality Through a Nonbinary Lens
DESCRIPTION:EMBODYING QUEERNESS: CREATIVE PROCESSES OF SEXUALITY THROUGH A NONBINARY LENS\n\n\n\nImagining what it could look and feel like to embody your gender and being without the societal constructs of the binary as an act of reclaiming the body and sexuality. Through this workshop we will use somatic embodiment practices of movement and dance to help us explore the sensations and feelings in the body which will aid us in creating our own body maps and narratives. This workshop will also challenge normative sexual scripts through both sensual and visual creative processes that emphasize queer joy and pleasure. DESCRIPTION:Dancercise YEG is a fitness class that features easy dance moves in upbeat exercise routines! To celebrate Pride Month\, we are hosting Dancercise with PRIDE\, where we will be exercising to songs about gender diversity and inclusivity.  \n\n\n\nWith songs by Lady Gaga and Chappell Roan\, there will be lots of great choreography and aerobic exercise! We believe this event will publicly showcase our solidarity and allyship with the 2S/LGBTQ+ community and provide a safe space for queer pride and joy.  \n\n\n\nIn this time of darkness and uncertainty\, we aim to provide a space where our 2S/LGBTQ+ community members and allies can just dance\, workout and have fun!  \n\n\n\nThe class is by donation\, as we aim to make the class accessible to all. DESCRIPTION:The Soul Song Circle Singers present… \n\n\n\nRAINBOW CONNECTION – singing songs written by and in support of our LGBTQ+ Community featuring special guest artist Emmet Michael whose music is Introspective and enthralling\, with equal parts grit and grace\, Emmet Michael is a musician who was built on his trials. Drawing on his experience of embracing his transgender identity\, living with mental illness\, and battling addiction\, his songs carry a tone of desperation and sorrow.
