DESCRIPTION:The Edmonton Queer History Project and Fort Edmonton Park proudly announce the opening of “Regulating Morality: Exploring Edmonton’s Queer History\,” a historical display showcasing 2SLGBTQ+ existence and resistance in the ongoing fight for human rights. \n\n\n\nRegulating Morality explores key historic events including the moral theocracy of “Bible Bill” Aberhart\, HIV/AIDS pandemic\, the landmark Vriend v. Alberta Supreme Court case\, to current threats against 2SLGBTQ+ equality and human rights. DESCRIPTION:Looking for a unique experience that will make you say “wow!” Nextfest is the festival for you. \n\n\n\nNextfest is a multi-disciplinary arts festival in Edmonton put on at The Roxy Theatre (10708 124 St). Over the eleven days of the festival\, Nextfest showcases the work of emerging performing\, dance\, film\, music\, and visual artists. Nextfest has more than forty different events\, performances\, galleries\, workshops\, mentorship opportunities\, and infamous Nite Clubs for you to enjoy. Your next ‘best experience ever’ is waiting for you\, take a chance on Nextfest! \n\n\n\nJoin in on the best fest on this side of summer by embracing the experimental with us and uplifting new works. Take a risk on an experience\, make some friends\, and see creations that come straight from the minds of the next generation. Many of the artists taking part in nextfest are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community\, and several of our events present 2SLGBTQIA+ stories such as: \n\n\n\n\nParody of a Person on Friday\, June 13 at 4:00 pm – a theatre progress showing of a musical day-in-the-life satire about gender roles\, identity\, and the high price of meeting expectations. You’ll laugh\, you’ll cry\, you’ll suddenly ask yourself why you’re rooting for murder\n\n\n\nJINXXX on Friday\, June 13 at 9:30 pm – an 18+ queer nite club that will invite attendees to don their most cursed attire to brush elbows with lady luck and indulge in music\, performance\, and art. Subvert your superstitions with immersive installations\, roving entertainment\, and a main stage showcase in the Nancy Power Theatre\, before dancing your demons away with a midnight DJ set!\n\n\n\nThe Puppet Master: Burlesque\, Drag\, Puppetry and Live Music on Wednesday\, June 11 at 8:00 pm\n\n\n\n\nNextfest marks the beginning of a long creative journey for a huge array of artists. For more than twenty years\, we have fostered the growth and learning of thousands of artists who continue to practice and create on Treaty 6 land. We embody the spirit of newness and growth while respecting the deep roots planted by those who came before us. We are a platform for emerging artists\, a meeting ground for community\, a springboard for creative invention. Mentorship\, inclusion\, learning\, creative risk\, and vulnerability are at the core of everything we stand for. \n\n\n\nAnd so\, we embrace the spirit of Tatawaw: a Cree phrase meaning “welcome\, there is room.” \n\n\n\nThe Nextfest Arts Company acknowledges that we are situated on Treaty 6 territory\, the home of the Nations of Cree\, Nakota-Sioux\, Blackfoot\, Dene\, Tsuu T’ina\, Metis\, and other Indigenous peoples who call this land home\, who have created and gathered on these lands for thousands of years. \n\n\n\nAt Nextfest\, everyone is welcome exactly as they are. Our circle continues to grow and evolve with our artists as they grow and evolve\, too.
