DESCRIPTION:Join us for DECL’s Pride Breakfast!\n\n\n\nBring Friends and Family out to DECL’s Pride Breakfast! \n\n\n\nJoin the Downtown Edmonton Community League at our Pride Breakfast on Saturday\, June 8th at the DECL Community Space (10042 – 103 st). We will be serving a pancake breakfast from 9 am – 11 am.  This is an opportunity to share a meal and build relationships with members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their allies. It is a time to celebrate diversity\, culture\, and to amplify voices. \n\n\n\nSupporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth \n\n\n\nAll proceeds from the DECL Pride Breakfast will be donated to the CHEW Project. The Community\, Heath\, Empowerment & Wellness (CHEW) Project is an extension of the FYREFLY Institute. It provides a safe environment and free frontline support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and young adults under 29\, who are facing barriers. Some of those barriers include mental health\, poverty\, houselessness\, substance use\, sexual health\, oppression\, and more. DESCRIPTION:Over this 1.5 hour course you’ll learn the basics drag king makeup\, from the iconic king\, Orpheus! (As seen on multiple events around Edmonton) He gives overviews of specialized products\, in depth tutorials\, and shares all the tricks of the trade to help demystify the artform. After taking the course you’ll feel equipped and empowered to start making creative looks of your own! \n\n\n\nOrpheus will show all the products you need to paint a drag face and explain how to best apply them. They will discuss the principles behind contouring for a male illusion and they will share a guide they made of masculine contouring patterns\, and explain how different shapes convey different things about your drag persona. DESCRIPTION:Leonard “Len” Keith and Joseph “Cub” Coates were a queer couple in the rural New Brunswick village of Havelock in the early 20th century. Len & Cub features Len’s photos of their life and tells the story of their relationship against the background of same-sex identity and relationships in rural North America of the early 20th century. While keeping their sexual identities closeted\, they captured their decades-long relationship via photographs. This remarkable material is as important socially and historically as their story is one of the oldest photographic records of a same-sex couple in the Maritimes.  \n\n\n\nWe invite you to witness the unique love\, friendship and lives of Len & Cub to challenge contemporary ideas of about sex and gender expression in the early 20th century. \n\n\n\nCurated by Meredith J. ASL provided. \n\n\n\nThe landscape for Trans and gender-diverse people has evolved and changed in numerous ways over the years. There is a rich and oftentimes little-known understanding of and knowledge about the history of Trans and gender-diverse people. \n\n\n\nThough an emerging dialogue\, there is little discussion about how that history can inform the struggles and challenges faced by Trans and gender-diverse people today. Currently\, there is a discussion about a gender revolution happening in Canada\, where a number of provinces have published statements affirming the need to improve health care for Trans and gender-diverse people. However\, simultaneously\, six provinces have passed anti-trans and gender-diverse legislation\, specifically focusing on restricting gender-affirming care and education for youth. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this presentation will be to put current discussions and debates about Trans and gender-diverse people in a historical context with a focus on the evolution of the discussions and debates about trans and gender-diverse human rights. DESCRIPTION:After such an exciting week we all deserve a little serenity and there is no better way to achieve that than by watching some Bob Ross videos. Join in on the final day of the safe space where we’ll be following a Bob Ross painting tutorial using any medium of choice like watercolor\, crayons\, and maybe even Microsoft Paint. There is no expectation that participants are experienced with painting\, however\, we will be offering other types of arts and crafts if anyone would prefer to do something different.
