SUMMARY:Edmonton’s Downtown Queer History
DESCRIPTION:Michael Phair and Rob Browatzke lead our first Walking Tour of the summer in conjunction with the National Queer & Trans+ Community History Conference. The tour starts and ends at the Macewan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity (Roundhouse in Allard Hall\, but don’t be surprised if we stop somewhere extra special mid-tour for a quick coffee inside a space that is a legendary part of Edmonton’s queer history! \n\n\n\nNot familiar with our tours? Attending the conference and not familiar with the city? Don’t worry. Our friendly guides will explain everything you need to know before we start\, but you’re looking at a 90-minute guided walking tour\, rain or shine\, and our knowledgeable guides encourage interaction and are able to tailor the talk to the group. \n\n\n\nWe are pleased to be able to provide ASL interpretation for this walking tour. Please notify us at least one week in advance when you register. \n\n\n\nThe 2024 Spring/Summer EQHP Walking Tour Series is made possible thanks to funding and support provided by the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity\, Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, and the Stollery Community Foundation. \n\n\n\nWhat is the cost of the tour? All walking tours are free\, thanks to the support of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, Stollery Charitable Foundation\, and the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity. \n\n\n\nHow long is a tour? Each tour is about 90 minutes and will take place outside without any breaks. Family Friendly monthly all age drag shows\, plus more support throughout the month. A place for all ages (young and old together) to perform\, relax\, enjoy\, find mentorship\, and friends in a 2SLGBTQQIA+ safe environment\, while we raise funds for 2SLGBTQQIA+ youth initiatives and other great causes. \n\n\n\nThe Unitarian Church of Edmonton is a sponsor of Dragging Youth Shows. Dragging Youth has monthly Shows at the Unitarian Church of Edmonton (UCE). UCE has no stairs going into the building or to public areas. There is a button operated door at the front. A lovely ramp for performers to get on stage. Plus accessible\, gender neutral washrooms.  Chairs in the Sanctuary are easily moved to accommodate various needs.  UCE also has a quiet room where shows can be viewed with decreased stimulus. We will be serving a pancake breakfast from 9 am – 11 am.  This is an opportunity to share a meal and build relationships with members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their allies. It is a time to celebrate diversity\, culture\, and to amplify voices. \n\n\n\nSupporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth \n\n\n\nAll proceeds from the DECL Pride Breakfast will be donated to the CHEW Project. The Community\, Heath\, Empowerment & Wellness (CHEW) Project is an extension of the FYREFLY Institute. It provides a safe environment and free frontline support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and young adults under 29\, who are facing barriers. Some of those barriers include mental health\, poverty\, houselessness\, substance use\, sexual health\, oppression\, and more. It’s a great way to break up your fun on the Towers Patio as MacEwan University celebrates Pride Month! \n\n\n\nNot familiar with our tours? Attending the conference and not familiar with the city? Don’t worry. Our friendly guides will explain everything you need to know before we start\, but you’re looking at a 90-minute guided walking tour\, rain or shine\, and our knowledgeable guides encourage interaction and are able to tailor the talk to the group. \n\n\n\nWe are pleased to be able to provide ASL interpretation for this walking tour. Please notify us at least one week in advance when you register. \n\n\n\nThe 2024 Spring/Summer EQHP Walking Tour Series is made possible thanks to funding and support provided by the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity\, Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, and the Stollery Community Foundation. \n\n\n\nWhat is the cost of the tour? All walking tours are free\, thanks to the support of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, Stollery Charitable Foundation\, and the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity. \n\n\n\nHow long is a tour? Each tour is about 90 minutes and will take place outside without any breaks.
