DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate  Edmonton Pride Month in our City – June 1 to June 30\, 2023 \n\n\n\nAround the world the month of June is when the 2SLGBTQIA+ community celebrates Pride and here in Edmonton 2023’s edition of Pride Month will be bigger and filled more amazing events through the month than ever in our City’s history. \n\n\n\nThis year we are expecting over 50 events throughout June produced by up to 30 Organizations and Allies in close to two dozen different venues\, many of the Downtown. \n\n\n\nNot only will almost all of our local Organizations serving the Queer community be offering everything from local history walking tours to Ecumenical Pride Services and even panel discussions but also our many Allies in the community will be bringing some entertaining drag performances during brunches and celebration party nights. \n\n\n\nBut you will want to catch some extraordinary events like Thorgy Thorgenson and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at The Winspear\, the hilarious Shayla Shenanigans with over 16 hilarious celebrity impersonations at Evolution Wonderlounge. \n\n\n\nAnd a brand new event this year at Louise McKinney Riverfront Park is the Edmonton Drag Festival with a roster of entertainers this will feature over 30 local and International Drag Performers. \n\n\n\nAnd if you can’t get enough of Edmonton Queens then a former Queen herself … the Edmonton Riverboat will dock at Rafters landing on Friday\, June 23rd for a special Pride Party on the river. As a part of the queer community\, she knows of countless queer folk who are survivors of sexual violence. Unfortunately\, academia has yet to address these high rates of victimization meaningfully\, as gender minorities are often left out of sexual violence research. Despite the relative newness of gender and sexual minority research in psychology\, she believes that researchers have a responsibility to amplify the voices of the queer community to help increase understanding\, intervention\, and ideally prevention of sexual violence in these vulnerable communities. \n\n\n\nJAPKARAN SAROYA (HE/HIM)\n\n\n\nWe’re Queer and We’ve Always Been Here: The Impact of a Virtual Queer History Tour on 2SLGBTQ+ and Cisgender Heterosexual Young Adults in Alberta \n\n\n\nSupervisors: Dr. Eric Legge\, Dr. Kristopher Wells\, Dr. Laura Offrey \n\n\n\nJapkaran is a fifth-year Honours Psychology major. He is interested in the field of LGBT psychology and mental health among 2SLGBTQ+ young adults. Outside of academics\, Japkaran is an avid pop-culture connoisseur and loves to create art in different mediums. \n\n\n\nNOELLE KILBREATH (SHE/HER)\n\n\n\nWhat Does Allyship to the LGBTQ+ Community Mean? \n\n\n\nSupervisor: Dr. Laura Offrey \n\n\n\nNoelle is in her fourth year as a Psychology major and a Gender Studies minor. She is an athlete on the MacEwan women’s basketball team and is originally from Calgary. We invite you to share your story on your terms and give yourself the past and the future that you have always deserved. \n\n\n\nWe are partnering again with the NorthSide Pride Collaborative Group\, which includes NAIT\, NorQuest\, The King’s University and Concordia University of Edmonton.
