SUMMARY:TELUS originals FLASHBACK (2024)
DESCRIPTION:HIV Edmonton presents a screening of the new TELUS Originals feature documentary film\, Flashback (2024) at the Metro Cinema.  \n\n\n\nFollowing the screening Tangerine Productions/Flashback Film Director Peter Hays will host a discussion panel with HIV Edmonton‘s Executive Director Catherine Broomfield\, AIDS Network of Edmonton/HIV Edmonton founder Michael Phair and Queer Historian Ron Byers. \n\n\n\nIt was the Studio 54 of the Prairies\, a club that owner John Reid vowed would be a safe place for ‘gay people and their friends.’ Flashback is the story of a defiant disco dance culture of sweat and sex and drugs and fashion. \n\n\n\nLocated in a conservative northern Canadian city often hostile to queer people\, Flashback became a sensation on the international club circuit despite police raids\, threats of violence and the scourge of AIDS. \n\n\n\nFlashback is a ghost. But it comes alive again in the memories of the people who were there and the legends they left behind. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n18+ or All Ages18+ \n\n\n\nVenueMetro Cinema \n\n\n\nAddressStreet Address : 8712-109 Street N.W.City : EdmontonState/Province : AlbertaZIP / Postal Code : T6G1E9 \n\n\n\nWebsite Linkhttp://flashbackdocumentary.ca \n\n\n\nEvent Linkhttps://www.metrocinema.org/production/flashback/ \n\n\n\nTicket Linkhttps://ticketing.uswest.veezi.com/purchase/8415?siteToken=bfsmvs00k2v5xfayv313wkqpkw \n\n\n\nTicket Description #1Adult \n\n\n\nTicket Amount #1$14.50 \n\n\n\nTicket Description #2Youth (Under 18) / Student \n\n\n\nTicket Amount #2$11.50 \n\n\n\nTicket Description #3Senior \n\n\n\nTicket Amount #3$11.50 \n\n\n\nIndoor event or outdoor eventIndoors \n\n\n\nType of eventFor profit \n\n\n\nIs this event presented by a College or University for students? No \n\n\n\nEvent ContactPeter Hays \n\n\n\nEvent Contact Email Addressinfo@flashbackdocumentary.ca \n\n\n\nEvent Phone Number1 (780) 925-1212 \n\n\n\nFacebook Pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091178323657 \n\n\n\nInstagram Accounthttps://www.instagram.com/flashbackdocumentary/

SUMMARY:Full Moon Campfire
DESCRIPTION:Emberwood’s quarterly 2SLGBTQIA+ gathering is a great place to connect with queer community\, sample some eco-therapy\, and check out the Emberwood vibe for the first time. \n\n\n\n7:00 – 8:30 PM. Doors at 6:30 PM. Keheewin Park. \n\n\n\nThe night begins with a casual soft start indoors. We are indoors from 6:30 to 7:00 pm. Grab some tea\, buy a treat\, and hang out in Emberwood’s gear room. Borrow clothing layers from Emberwood’s Clothing Library if the weather is cool. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe guided portion begins at 7:00 pm with a just few activities. We head outside together for quiet time\, beginning with a short meditation to get centred. We go for a gentle walk with some guided ‘forest bathing’ style invitations to try in nature. This is a silent\, introvert-friendly time in nature. Then\, you’ll have a short solo time. Back at the group\, we have a campfire\, and you’ll have some personal ritual time to burn things you write and to light candles. You might share something about your solo if you choose. After closing\, some folks leave\, and some stay and visit casually for a bit. \n\n\n\n*Full Moon fires are designed for young adults (grade 12 to 39) who are 2SLGBTQIA+. This is a queer and trans space. However\, we heartily welcome allies and older ages. If you have been to other Emberwood events or are a family member or friend of a queer attendee\, we would love to see you! SUMMARY:TELUS originals FLASHBACK (2024)
DESCRIPTION:Gearing up for our next Metro screening! Monday\, September 16th @6:45 pm… save the date for when we present another special screening of the new TELUS Originals feature documentary film\, Flashback (2024) at the Metro Cinema. \n\n\n\nThe Flashback feature documentary is made with the support of TELUS originals. @telusoriginals \n\n\n\nInterim financing provided by ATB Financial’s cultural banking division. @atbfinancial \n\n\n\nIt was the Studio 54 of the Prairies\, a club that owner John Reid vowed would be a safe place for ‘gay people and their friends.’ Flashback is the story of a defiant disco dance culture of sweat and sex and drugs and fashion. \n\n\n\nLocated in a conservative northern Canadian city often hostile to queer people\, Flashback became a sensation on the international club circuit despite police raids\, threats of violence and the scourge of AIDS. \n\n\n\nFlashback is a ghost. But it comes alive again in the memories of the people who were there and the legends they left behind \n\n\n\nWe’re very pleased to announce that Flashback has been nominated as a finalist in four categories for the 2024 Rosie Awards hosted by AMPIA.The nominations are:Best Documentary Production Over 30 MinutesFlashback // Peter Hays\, Matthew Hays // Tangerine ProductionsBest Screenwriter Documentary Over 30 MinutesPeter Hays // Flashback // Tangerine ProductionsBest Cinematographer Documentary Over 30 MinutesBradley Warren // Flashback // Tangerine ProductionsBest Original Musical Score DocumentaryIan Dillon\, Carson Dillon\, D’orjay // Flashback // Tangerine Productions \n\n\n\nFYI – The awards show is in Calgary this year\, at the Westin Hotel on Oct 19 starting at 7:30pm.Thanks again to everyone who did such wonderful work on Flashback! \n\n\n\n18+ or All Ages18+ \n\n\n\nVenueMetro Cinema \n\n\n\nAddressStreet Address : 8712-109 Street N.W.City : EdmontonState/Province : AlbertaZIP / Postal Code : T6G 1E9 \n\n\n\nWebsite Linkhttp://flashbackdocumentary.ca \n\n\n\nEvent Linkhttps://www.metrocinema.org/production/flashback/ \n\n\n\nTicket Linkhttps://metrocinema.org/production/flashback/ \n\n\n\nTicket Description #1Adult Ticket Amount #1$14.50 \n\n\n\nTicket Description #2Youth (Under 18) / Student Ticket Amount #2$11.50 \n\n\n\nTicket Description #3Senior Ticket Amount #3$11.50 \n\n\n\nIndoor event or outdoor eventIndoors \n\n\n\nType of eventFor profit \n\n\n\nIs this event presented by a College or University for students? No \n\n\n\nEvent ContactPeter Hays \n\n\n\nEvent Contact Email Addressinfo@flashbackdocumentary.ca \n\n\n\nEvent Phone Number1 (780) 925-1212 \n\n\n\nFacebook Pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091178323657 \n\n\n\nInstagram Accounthttps://www.instagram.com/flashbackdocumentary/

We intend to showcase 2Spirit\, Trans and Non-Binary voices and QTIBPOC artists and community groups. \n\n\n\nWe are not charging admission for Community Pride Day but we are requesting donation items for grassroots org Bear Claw Beaver Hills House. SUMMARY:2024 Edmonton Queer History Month
DESCRIPTION:Queer History Month in Canada is a relatively recent initiative that aligns with global efforts to recognize and celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ history. Like similar movements in the U.S. and the U.K.\, the development of Queer History Month in Canada reflects the country’s unique history of 2SLGBTQ+ rights\, activism\, and social change. \n\n\n\nRecently\, Edmonton-based organization Rainbow Story Hub Foundation started the conversation of formalizing Queer History Month as a national observance across Canada. \n\n\n\nIn the meantime\, there is growing community momentum to share these stories – including right here\, in our city. \n\n\n\nEdmonton has often been on the forefront of 2SLGBTQIA+ movements\, and once again stands proud to pave the way for recognition of the quiet but impactful ways we – as a city – have driven change and given voice to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. \n\n\n\nThis year\, several local organizations have come together to take Queer History Month 2024 to a new level. Here are some of the events you can participate in this month and support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Edmonton. Take a look into our history\, join us for a film or tour\, hear new stories\, and discover the significant impacts the quiet City of Edmonton has made on Canada’s queer community. \n\n\n\nThis month isn’t only being recognized in Edmonton. To see what else is on in Canada in honour of Queer History Month\, you can visit the 2SLGBTQIA+ History Month Canada Facebook Group. Here they will be sharing events happening across the nation all month long. \n\n\n\nThank you to our partners in the 2024 Edmonton Queer History Month Collaborative Group led by the Royal Alberta Museum\, Rainbow Story Hub Foundation\, Edmonton Queer History Project\, the City of Edmonton Public Libraries\, the City of Edmonton Public Archives\, the Edmonton Heritage Council and their Edmonton City As Museum (ECAMP) project\, and the Mitchell Gallery at MacEwan University. \n\n\n\nFor all the information and schedule of events please go to: \n\n\n\nhttps://exploreedmonton.com/articles/queer-history-month
