DESCRIPTION:Michael Phair and guest lead the last walking history tour of the summer\, starting at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Revisit the moments and memories that make up the history of Edmonton Pride\, from Gay Day Anyway at Centennial Plaza through to parades ending at Churchill Square and so much more. \n\n\n\nNot familiar with our tours? Attending the conference and not familiar with the city? Don’t worry. Our friendly guides will explain everything you need to know before we start\, but you’re looking at a 90-minute guided walking tour\, rain or shine\, and our knowledgeable guides encourage interaction and are able to tailor the talk to the group. \n\n\n\nWe are pleased to be able to provide ASL interpretation for this walking tour. Please notify us at least one week in advance when you register. \n\n\n\nThe 2024 Spring/Summer EQHP Walking Tour Series is made possible thanks to funding and support provided by the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity\, Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, and the Stollery Community Foundation. \n\n\n\nWhat is the cost of the tour? All walking tours are free\, thanks to the support of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association\, Stollery Charitable Foundation\, and the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity. \n\n\n\nHow long is a tour? Each tour is about 90 minutes and will take place outside without any breaks. Please dress for the weather and bring sunscreen\, water or snacks. DESCRIPTION:DYS x ELEN Present: Community Pride Day\n\n\n\nDragging Youth Shows and Edmonton Lesbian* Event Network are pleased to announce Community Pride Day 2024.  \n\n\n\nThis is ELEN’s 6th Annual family Pride party and another partnership with the great folks at DYS. Our free\, all ages celebration will take place both indoors and outdoors. We will be welcoming diverse vendors\, local organizations and community leaders in a space safe for the whole family. We’ll have lots of arts & crafts\, interactive zones\, activities and outdoor games\, photo ops\, a barbeque\, music\, silent auction and much more. After this day of fun\, stick around for another terrific monthly show from Dragging Youth. This revue of talented amateur and experienced performers is for Orange Shirt Day and benefits Edmonton 2Spirit Society. \n\n\n\nOur goal is to blend Indigenous-focused resources and creative works while also highlighting and uplifting smaller orgs and businesses from our local queer community\, especially the ones who are marginalized and sidelined even within our own spaces. We intend to showcase 2Spirit\, Trans and Non-Binary voices and QTIBPOC artists and community groups. \n\n\n\nWe are not charging admission for Community Pride Day but we are requesting donation items for grassroots org Bear Claw Beaver Hills House. Our drive is for all items that can be used on a street-level to support the houseless community (food\, water\, clothes\, shelter\, blankets\, candles\, etc). \n\n\n\nA ticket is required for the show\, starting at 6pm.  \n\n\n\n$7 in advance\, $10 on-site.  \n\n\n\n$11 advance bannock combo and ticket.  \n\n\n\nCash only\, no ATM on-site! Some lovely Kookums and Aunties are coming in to cook fresh bannock up in the kitchen for us. \n\n\n\nWe will have a barbeque and snacks available for purchase. SUMMARY:2024 Edmonton Queer History Month
DESCRIPTION:Queer History Month in Canada is a relatively recent initiative that aligns with global efforts to recognize and celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ history. Like similar movements in the U.S. and the U.K.\, the development of Queer History Month in Canada reflects the country’s unique history of 2SLGBTQ+ rights\, activism\, and social change. \n\n\n\nRecently\, Edmonton-based organization Rainbow Story Hub Foundation started the conversation of formalizing Queer History Month as a national observance across Canada. \n\n\n\nIn the meantime\, there is growing community momentum to share these stories – including right here\, in our city. \n\n\n\nEdmonton has often been on the forefront of 2SLGBTQIA+ movements\, and once again stands proud to pave the way for recognition of the quiet but impactful ways we – as a city – have driven change and given voice to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. \n\n\n\nThis year\, several local organizations have come together to take Queer History Month 2024 to a new level. Here are some of the events you can participate in this month and support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Edmonton. Take a look into our history\, join us for a film or tour\, hear new stories\, and discover the significant impacts the quiet City of Edmonton has made on Canada’s queer community. \n\n\n\nThis month isn’t only being recognized in Edmonton. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Pride Week 2025! \n\n\n\nThe march is the annual kick-off to Pride Week. This year\, every post-secondary institution in Edmonton will be marching across our campuses at the same time. We encourage the MacEwan community to gather representing their work areas\, clubs\, teams\, or groups to join as we march across campus. SUMMARY:Queer Poetry: an afternoon with Nisha Patel
DESCRIPTION:Nisha Patel is a renowned disabled queer poet and spoken word artist. She was the City of Edmonton’s 8th Poet Laureate\, a Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Champion and has several awards to her name. \n\n\n\nShe has spoken extensively on the intersections between queerness and disability and explores these topics in her creative work. SUMMARY:Queer Horizons | Trans Inclusion in Sport: On Gender Policing\, Resistance\, and Joy
DESCRIPTION:There is a long and problematic history of gender policing in sports through official policy and practice. This is true in elite sports as well as in recreational sports and all levels in between. In this talk\, we will discuss this history as well as current provincial policy (Bill 29)\, with a particular focus on the impacts on trans and gender-diverse folks\, but also cisgender girls and women. Of course\, where discriminatory restrictions exist\, so do examples of resiliency\, resistance\, and joy; accordingly\, we will share insights from research and our own experiences. Everyone belongs in sport. \n\n\n\nPresented by Eva Bošnjak and Dr William Bridel \n\n\n\nASL interpretation will be provided.  \n\n\n\nQueer Horizons: A Speaker Series Exploring 2SLGBTQ+ Research and Community Work  \n\n\n\nThe Queer Horizons speaker series\, presented by the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity\, profiles research and community work focused on 2SLGBTQ+ identities\, issues\, and topics. DESCRIPTION:PIE stands for Public\, Intentional\, and Explicit. These are the attitudes and actions required to be truly affirming. As recognition of Robertson Wesley’s commitment as a church to the 2SLGBTQIA community\, they will be hosting a free public event for PIE Day on Friday\, March 14th at 5:30. This year the threat to young trans and gender expansive individuals is especially at risk with the provincial legislation currently in progress\, therefore any funds raised will be shared between RW’s affirming ministries and Egale Canada who\, with Skipping Stone and several families\, are suing the AB government for unconstitutional discrimination regarding these specific bills\, particularly bill 26 which became law Dec 5\, 2024.   \n\n\n\nThe event itself is free (donations happily accepted) and will feature delicious pie\, community networking\, socializing\, empowering words and a variety show of local performers.
