DESCRIPTION:Regulating Morality: Exploring Edmonton’s Queer History: A Historical Display at Fort Edmonton Park\n\n\n\nThe Edmonton Queer History Project and Fort Edmonton Park proudly announce the opening of “Regulating Morality: Exploring Edmonton’s Queer History\,” a historical display showcasing 2SLGBTQ+ existence and resistance in the ongoing fight for human rights. \n\n\n\nRegulating Morality explores key historic events including the moral theocracy of “Bible Bill” Aberhart\, HIV/AIDS pandemic\, the landmark Vriend v. Alberta Supreme Court case\, to current threats against 2SLGBTQ+ equality and human rights. The exhibition explores the moral and gender panics of both the past and present\, community resilience and activism\, and educational\, legal\, and political challenges surrounding 2SLGBTQ+ issues in Alberta over the past 100 years. \n\n\n\nRegulating Morality: Exploring Edmonton’s Queer History is open until September 15\, 2024 in Reed’s China and Gift Shop on 1905 Street at Fort Edmonton Park. Monday\, September 16th @6:45 pm… save the date for when we present another special screening of the new TELUS Originals feature documentary film\, Flashback (2024) at the Metro Cinema. \n\n\n\nThe Flashback feature documentary is made with the support of TELUS originals. @telusoriginals \n\n\n\nInterim financing provided by ATB Financial’s cultural banking division. @atbfinancial \n\n\n\nIt was the Studio 54 of the Prairies\, a club that owner John Reid vowed would be a safe place for ‘gay people and their friends.’ Flashback is the story of a defiant disco dance culture of sweat and sex and drugs and fashion. \n\n\n\nLocated in a conservative northern Canadian city often hostile to queer people\, Flashback became a sensation on the international club circuit despite police raids\, threats of violence and the scourge of AIDS. \n\n\n\nFlashback is a ghost. DESCRIPTION:DYS x ELEN Present: Community Pride Day\n\n\n\nDragging Youth Shows and Edmonton Lesbian* Event Network are pleased to announce Community Pride Day 2024.  \n\n\n\nThis is ELEN’s 6th Annual family Pride party and another partnership with the great folks at DYS. Our free\, all ages celebration will take place both indoors and outdoors. We will be welcoming diverse vendors\, local organizations and community leaders in a space safe for the whole family. We’ll have lots of arts & crafts\, interactive zones\, activities and outdoor games\, photo ops\, a barbeque\, music\, silent auction and much more. After this day of fun\, stick around for another terrific monthly show from Dragging Youth. This revue of talented amateur and experienced performers is for Orange Shirt Day and benefits Edmonton 2Spirit Society. \n\n\n\nOur goal is to blend Indigenous-focused resources and creative works while also highlighting and uplifting smaller orgs and businesses from our local queer community\, especially the ones who are marginalized and sidelined even within our own spaces. We intend to showcase 2Spirit\, Trans and Non-Binary voices and QTIBPOC artists and community groups. \n\n\n\nWe are not charging admission for Community Pride Day but we are requesting donation items for grassroots org Bear Claw Beaver Hills House. Our drive is for all items that can be used on a street-level to support the houseless community (food\, water\, clothes\, shelter\, blankets\, candles\, etc). \n\n\n\nA ticket is required for the show\, starting at 6pm.  \n\n\n\n$7 in advance\, $10 on-site.  \n\n\n\n$11 advance bannock combo and ticket.  \n\n\n\nCash only\, no ATM on-site! Some lovely Kookums and Aunties are coming in to cook fresh bannock up in the kitchen for us. \n\n\n\nWe will have a barbeque and snacks available for purchase. Alcohol will be available indoors with ID. We will be trying to address dietary restriction and special requirements so please let us know in advance if this is a concern. \n\n\n\nThe Unitarian Church of Edmonton is fully accessible and has gender neutral washrooms. We will have a quiet room available and a designated sensory and stimulus zone. There will be free parking on-site and in adjacent areas. While designated as a ‘church’\, it is important to note this is a progressive and inclusive space dedicated to learning\, spiritual exploration and social justice. The UCE proudly supports queer and Trans causes.
