SPEAK (Sexuality, Pride, and Equality Alliance at King's) is a student-led initiative that provides a safe and comfortable space for LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning) identifying students to support one another. SPEAK warmly and confidentially welcomes new members and has opportunities for students to be both members and leaders. It is a place to create relationships, listen, share, and experience the stories of others. SPEAK meets three times a month in an undisclosed location and is a student-only event (no faculty or staff attend SPEAK meetings).
For information, contact the general SPEAK email at speak.kingsu@gmail.com or talk to Jennifer Braun (Jennifer.braun@kingsu.ca).
Meetings
SPEAK meetings take place on the first Monday of the month, the second Wednesday of the month, and the third Friday of the month. Meetings are held during the common free period, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
SPEAK OUT
SPEAK OUT is the peer education arm of SPEAK and, as such, is an all-inclusive safe space for students, staff and faculty. SPEAK OUT is open to students who identify as LGBTQ+ and straight/cisgender allies. SPEAK OUT hosts a variety of events throughout the year to foster discussion and help educate King's campus on issues facing LGBTQ+ identifying persons.
